INTRA- UTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)

Intra- Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing prepared, good quality sperm directly into a woman's uterus using a catheter, after carefully monitoring or inducing ovulation.
This procedure is typically done when there are issues with sperm motility or when there are unexplained fertility problems.

When is IUI recommended?

IUI may be recommended in case of less severe infertility issues, where improving the relative movement of sperm and egg can result in fertilization.

If the male partner has low sperm count, decreased sperm motility, or abnormalities in sperm morphology (shape), IUI can help by bypassing some of the barriers that sperm face in reaching and fertilizing the egg.
When the male partner has difficulty sustaining an erection or ejaculating semen into the vagina due to conditions like retrograde ejaculation or erectile dysfunction.
Cervical mucus plays a crucial role in fertility as it helps sperm travel through the cervix and into the uterus and fallopian tubes to reach the egg for fertilization. In case woman is not producing enough mucus or when mucus is too thick, resisting sperm motility, IUI can be done to bypass the cervix and place the mucus directly into uterus
When a couple has been trying to conceive without using protection for a significant period of time without success and no specific cause for infertility has been detected in the fertility tests, IUI may be recommended as first resort.
Same sex women couples or a woman without a male partner may choose donor sperm to conceive using IUI treatment. The donor sperm used is from ART certified and registered sperm which has been tested for quality.

How does it Work?

IUI Treatment first starts with a correct assessment of the couple’s fertility. Based on the results of important infertility tests, doctor creates a treatment plan.

Once IUI is selected as the treatment option, Doctor as well as your counsellor will set out some pre- treatment fitness plan for you based on your weight, thyroid and other conditions. Through periodic blood tests and ultrasound scan, maturity of follicles is monitored to determine the best time of insemination. Once eggs release is induced, prepared semen of good quality is placed higher in the uterine cavity using a sterile, flexible catheter.

"Family-Focused IVF Care for Your Parenthood Dreams"!

Step-1
Infertility Assesssment

Before the start of treatment, severity and type of infertility is understood. This has three steps-

DOCTOR CONSULTATION

Doctor understand your concern, your history related to conceiving, medical history etc. and recommends a few tests.

INFERTILITY TESTS

Based on the preliminary assessment, doctor may recommend various tests. Majorly following tests are recommended-

  • 1.Blood tests
  • 2.Male fertility testing, including semen analysis
  • 3.Ultrasound Scan
  • 4.Infectious disease screening
  • 4.Uterine evaluation

TREATMENT PLAN

After looking at the test results, Doctor will pick the right treatment for you and discuss important steps of treatment. In house counsellor will take you through the treatment cost structure.

Step-2
IUI Procedure

After the assessment is done and patient is declared medically fit to undergo the treatment, IUI procedure will begin

OVARIAN STIMULATION

To maximise chances of fertilization, ovulation is monitored and stimulated using medication to ensure maturity of follicles.

MONITORING

The ovulation is then closely monitored using USG Scan of endometrium (lining of the womb). Frequent Blood tests may be carried out to measure hormone levels and determine best time for ovulation.

EGG RELEASE

Once follicles are determined to be mature, egg release will be induced using HcG injection.

SPERM COLLECTION

The male partner is asked to provide the sperm sample.

SPERM SELECTION

The sperm sample collected is then washed in the laboratory, which means separating the higher motility sperm and making it concentrated in small volume.

INSEMINATION

Once the eggs are released through HcG injection and sperm sample is ready, the final step is insemination. The washed specimen of highly motile sperm is placed higher in the uterine cavity using a sterile, flexible catheter. The insemination is a simple.

Step-3
Test for Pregnancy

Approximately 10-14 days after embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to determine whether implantation has occurred and pregnancy has been achieved. If the test is positive, ongoing prenatal care is initiated to monitor the progress of the pregnancy.

IUI WITH Maya IVF!
