Ovulation Induction With Timed Intercourse (OI-TI)

Medication is used to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs, which are then released (ovulation) at a predictable time. Timed intercourse refers to having sexual intercourse during the woman's most fertile window, typically around the time of ovulation, to increase the chances of conception. OI-TI is the most basic fertility treatment.

When is OI-TI recommended?

OI-TI is recommended for couples facing ovulation issues or unexplained infertility and serves as an essential first step in their fertility treatment journey. By combining ovulation induction with strategic timing of intercourse, OI-TI aims to enhance the chances of conception while allowing for a less invasive approach to fertility challenges.

We will work with you to develop individualised care plans, including management of chronic diseases. If we cannot assist, we can provide referrals or advice about the type of practitioner you require. We treat all enquiries sensitively and in the strictest confidence.

If a woman is not ovulating regularly or not ovulating at all (anovulation), OI-TI may be recommended to stimulate ovulation and increase the chances of conception.
When couples have been trying to conceive for a significant period of time without success and no specific cause of infertility has been identified, OI-TI may be attempted as an initial treatment to optimize the timing of intercourse.
OI-TI may be recommended if there are issues with the cervix affecting sperm transport or survival within the reproductive tract.
OI-TI is often preferred by couples who wish to pursue a less invasive fertility treatment before considering more advanced options.

OVULATION INDUCTION

Once the baseline assessments are complete, the woman will typically begin treatment with ovulation-inducing medication or injection. These medications stimulate the ovaries to produce and release one or more eggs.

MONITORING

Throughout the ovulation induction process, the woman's response to the medication is monitored closely. This may involve regular ultrasound scans to monitor follicle development and blood tests to measure hormone levels.

EGG RELEASE

Ovulation induction cycles are followed by a hCG injection to induce ovulation, the final maturation of the egg and loosening of the egg from the follicle wall.

TIMING OF INTERCOURSE

Based on the monitoring results, the fertility specialist will advise the couple on the optimal timing for sexual intercourse to maximize the chances of conception.

Step-3
Test for Pregnancy

Approximately 10-14 days after embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to determine whether implantation has occurred and pregnancy has been achieved. If the test is positive, ongoing prenatal care is initiated to monitor the progress of the pregnancy.
